September 9–Joe–Behold the Lamb

READ: John 1:29

DATE: September 11, 2019

TITLE: Behold The Lamb

HIGHLIGHT:

“The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ”Here is the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.”

Explain:

In the King James version this verse reads, “Behold the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world. John was telling his listeners that Jesus was the Lamb of God. This statement of John has a four-fold meaning which is:

  1. Jesus is the SAVING Lamb—Jesus is the only means of salvation. From the Garden of Eden, there had to be a blood sacrifice for sins. Jesus was the blood sacrifice.
  2. Jesus is the SUBSTITUTIONARY Lamb—Jesus died in the place of the sinner. Jesus substituted for the sinner in dying for the sinner’s sin.
  3. Jesus is the SUFFERING Lamb—Jesus took the full punishment of God for sin. Paul states in 2 Corinthians 1;22 that “He who knew no sin became sin.” Isaiah in his sixty fourth chapter presents Christ as facing the full disdain, disgust and demands of God in punishment for sin.
  4. Jesus is the SUBMITTING Lamb—Jesus willing and voluntarily submitted to the will of God in dying a substitutionary death on Calvary.

APPLY:

Praise God that He granted me the faith to believe and receive Christ as my savior. I am now to share the gospel with as many people as possible. I am to be a preacher, proclaimer and professor of salvation through the Lamb of God.

RESPOND:

Lord, thank you for allowing your Son to be my savior. Please cause me to share the gospel with as many people as possible and may many come to know Christ as savior.
